In 2004, when we set out to change the face of the maritime safety, innovation wasn’t the first word that came to mind. It was survival. Too many accidents involved injuries and fatalities, with safety regulations dating back to the wreckage of the Titanic. We watched our own perish in the stormy seas off the coast of Newfoundland, during the Ocean Ranger disaster. There had to be a better way to prepare for the worst – to be ready.

Since then, we have made thousands of incremental improvements to our simulation systems, and we keep improving daily. We have helped regulatory bodies and flag states globally to implement and embrace the change that major Oil and Gas companies are requesting so they can increase competence and confidence in dangerous emergency situations. We incorporate science into advanced training systems to produce unique and memorable learning experiences. Being the first company to bring lifeboat simulation to the offshore oil and gas industry comes with a responsibility that we wear with pride.

We are Virtual Marine – Performance Simulation & Training.

We can’t say enough about the level of superb customer support. We have had no hardware failures.

Their staff are top notch and know their industry as well as ours. They easily programmed our scenarios as they knew what we were asking for — this minimized the typical iterations often experienced with simulator/VR designers and user SMEs, saving us staff time, and thus, money.
— Paul Mendel, Shell RTCC
Some of the training delegates were a bit skeptical in the beginning but changed their minds quickly once they started the evacuation scenarios. A couple of the delegates had tried a freefall lifeboat in real exercises and were inclined to use the simulator instead.
— Kasper Trager, Maersk Training
Really pleased with the simulator. Easy to use and I think, a better learning experience than going down to the dock
— Keith Filby, Georgian College
Client decided to have all coxswains complete the simulator based training. Feedback from training delegates has been very positive. Course ratings of 5.8/6.0 have been consistently received. This compares to a typical course of 5.0/6.0 prior to the introduction of simulation based training.
Simulator training is more realistic than conventional training as it exposes coxswains to emergency evacuation scenarios. The lifeboat simulator allows the crew to develop “muscle memory” and to be more likely to perform well in an emergency situation.
— Capt. Mike Jubb, OIM, Prosafe
The availability of lifeboat simulator technology allows SSTL to offer training options previously considered impractical or unsafe in conventional training.
— Dan Latremouille, Operations Manager, SSTL

Our Team

We are a passionate team that is driven to develop safer, realistic, simulation training for life boats and many other marine situations and environments. Our goal is to save more lives but provide training options that do not require the risky launch of vessels when simulation is an option. We arm our customers and trainees with the best simulation options on the market, we lobby governing bodies for change, and most of all we care about bringing people home to their families.
