Malaysian based MSTS Asia Sdn Bhd, a member of the RelyOn Nutec group of companies, is the newest member of the Virtual Marine user community, having just taken delivery of its latest VR desktop lifeboat simulator. The purchase includes Virtual Marine’s portable desktop simulator, equipped with a twinfall lifeboat payload based on a Fassmer design, launching from a fixed offshore platform. The system comes complete with Virtual Marine’s propriety and industry-leading Advanced Coxswain Training (ACT) program, which provides an instructorless solution with a combination of embedded practice and assessment scenarios.

Andy Paterson, Director of Training & Operations at MSTS, says, “We view this investment as a direct benefit for our customers, who have relied on MSTS to deliver industry-leading  lifeboat coxswain training. The lifeboat simulator system allows us to extend and automate important elements of lifeboat training that we otherwise would not be able to provide. Heavy sea states, nighttime launches, fire and smoke conditions are all possible in this highly realistic system which has been well proven in the industry. Virtual Marine was able to customize a solution for our training applications, representing an excellent fit with our existing programmes, digitalization strategy and instructor expectations.”

Virtual Marine’s VP Sales, Clayton Burry said, “We are honored to add MSTS to our growing user community and to extend our market reach into Southeast Asia. MSTS has very high training standards and we are extremely pleased they have placed their confidence in our people and our technology.” He went on to say, “Our mission at Virtual Marine is to be the world leader in lifeboat, fast rescue boat and ice management simulation. We look forward to supporting MSTS well into the future as they build on their industry-leading training and help us further showcase the benefits of a simulation solution for safe and competence-creating training.”

The number of regulatory bodies and classification societies adopting simulation as an alternative to live boat training continues to grow, as maritime schools and commercial training centres seek to reduce injury risk, as well as managing the escalating cost of maintenance, fuel and insurance.
