CAPP lifeboat 3-year Refresher Course

OBJECTIVE

To refresh the skills of offshore personnel in the operation of Survival Craft augmented with Lifeboat and Davit Launch Life Raft Simulators recognized by Training Qualification Committee (TQC) as meeting the Atlantic Canada Standard Practice

CONTENT

Explain and Identify the role of coxswain in the maintenance of survival craft

  • Discussion and Demonstration to describe the difference between off-load release and on-load release, including davit launch life raft release system

  • Discussion on external communication tools, including actions and procedures should loss of communication occurs

  • Pre-launch preparation, checks, and procedures

  • Launching and recovery, including various recovery methods

  • Towing operation and safety measures to take while towing

  • Survival, First Aid and Rescue, including habitability and sanitation

  • Operation in Ice

The simulation-based practical training exercises included are as follows:

  • Survival Craft handling, including launching and various recovery

  • Survival Craft maneuvering in various sea states and weather conditions

  • Perform operation of the emergency steering system and maintain a course Pacing and Towing, including proper procedures of being towed

  • Davit launched pre-launch inspection, including launch control

  • Launching and maneuvering at night

  • Maneuvering in ice, including ice evacuation practice
